Plein Air Painting Session on the 9th Hole of Penn National

Image
Greetings friends. Spring has arrived a little early in south central Pennsylvania. With temperatures in the high fifties today, I took the opportunity to paint outside. I found a special sunny spot near the ninth hole of the Penn National subdivision golf course. I readied my supplies and headed out. Using the three primary colors red, blue and yellow, I mixed a neutral outdoorsy palette of colors including some nice yellows, greens light browns and grey. I prepainted the blue sky at home using a creamy mix of Permalba White and cobalt blue. The session went fine and there was a pleasant breeze -- until, my easel and tripod toppled over. Luckily, I caught it and no damage was done. I painted nearly two hours and then headed home. Now, I'll finish some colors of the green grass, add some trees, and paint the house and barn in the distance. Should be a couple more easy sessions and then -- ready for hanging.
