Summertime Summertime Summertime Summertime!

Image
Greetings friends and Shelties! Sending in a report from Barking Dog Enterprises Studio and Gallery -- all is well in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania. The last days of summer are soon approaching and Labor Day is just around the corner. What does that mean for me and Tishy, the tricolor Sheltie puppy? I'm in a bit of a transition getting ready for a new season with fall fine art and scrapboards, preparing paintings for fall gallery showings and tending to summer pieces too. I took a pet portrait class with Arts Council of Chambersburg and teacher artist Nicole Troup showed us students the ropes teaching us to draw a beloved pet or other animal. I brought in a photo I took of Frosty Mugs, ambassador of goodwill, my beloved Sheltie who we owned in Louisville, Kentucky. As you can see, it turned out really good!  Enjoy the rest of the summer - which officially doesn't end until September 21!! Carry on --- Bark4art! Plein Air Painting Session on the 9th Hole of Penn National

Image
Greetings friends. Spring has arrived a little early in south central Pennsylvania. With temperatures in the high fifties today, I took the opportunity to paint outside. I found a special sunny spot near the ninth hole of the Penn National subdivision golf course. I readied my supplies and headed out. Using the three primary colors red, blue and yellow, I mixed a neutral outdoorsy palette of colors including some nice yellows, greens light browns and grey. I prepainted the blue sky at home using a creamy mix of Permalba White and cobalt blue. The session went fine and there was a pleasant breeze -- until, my easel and tripod toppled over. Luckily, I caught it and no damage was done. I painted nearly two hours and then headed home. Now, I'll finish some colors of the green grass, add some trees, and paint the house and barn in the distance. Should be a couple more easy sessions and then -- ready for hanging.

Shades of Grey Artist Exhibit

Image
At the Chambersburg, Pennsylvania Foundry Artist Co-op, a new art exhibit has been hung. The exhibit is called Shades of Grey. The one thing that the fine art pieces have in common is that they highlight tones of grey, white and black. There are oil paintings -- some with trees and winter scenes -- fiber art, 3-D collage and more. One of the pieces contains silver wire in the shape of a tree in a frame. My piece is of a bird in a grey frame.  I drew the bird in charcoal pencil. It is of a nut hatch.  The Foundry will be hopping busy the 31st of January, and the first and second of February for Icefest, a festival of ice sculptures downtown. There will be jewelry bracelet making classes and cold wax painting for the low cost of $5.00 per person at the Foundry. Stop in to see the new exhibit and take a class!
